CRMS 7th Grade Students Get Involved
/Camden-Rockport Middle School just completed a months’ long project called “Solutionaries”. It is in its third year of existence. Seventh graders in their Language Arts and Social Studies classes have been working on ideas to help solve some of the social problems that plague our world today. After much research around 20 different topics, 31 action projects were completed.
The Camden Area Christian Food Pantry got invited to their community outreach day where different organizations came to speak about what they do and to answer questions students had that would help them decide how they wanted to develop their projects. The group CACFP attended was to address food insecurity. Following up on that day, three groups of students contacted CACFP Debra Milliken, via various emails, for further information to help with 3 action projects: 1) types of food needed when setting up food donation spots, 2) creating posters to make our community aware of the existence of a food pantry here in Camden, and 3) a couple of students helped to deliver food to a few families in need.
The project culminated in a Solutionaries Symposium which began with a short introductory presentation about the project’s purpose and ended in the cafeteria where projects were on display and students were there to answer any questions attendees had.
CACFP applauds the work of this project and is excited to see the younger generation become informed of the needs in our community and, hopefully, develop continued interest in helping all who need assistance and compassion, as well as the food insecure in our area.
